Artist's Comments

A photograph is a snapshot of a particular time and place, it captures a facet of reality and detaches it from the ever changing now.

“The still photograph must tease the viewer with the promise of a story that itches to be told” - Cindy Sherman

Although an image captured can have no future, its composition can suggest a narrative of its past and future. The present, from one viewpoint at least, is captured in the image. An image in itself cannot hope to describe an event completely, it can only suggest a situation and its unfolding events. We remember events as a series of memorable images, sounds, smells, sensations and emotions; it is only by combining these elements that we remember what has happened to us.

I wanted to create a narrative of a memory, the images would form different facets of this memory in much the same way someone would remember their past. I also wanted this remembered event to have a very significant and decisive “moment in time” to emphasise the importance time's inconstant nature. The sudden break up of a long term relationship causes just this watershed in time, at one second life is full of happiness and hope for the future, the next drowned with despair and cynicism. The juxtaposition of these two states of mind could portray a moment in time perfectly; the moment in time being the infinitesimal point where one state of affairs changed into the other.

wow ... this is an interesting concept ... i guess i would call this meta-photography ... nice work.
i think that this work would benefit from a frame or border ... i would probably use a strong black frame here, maybe with a thin white line ... like in this one: [link]

Thanks :) good idea, the actual piece that was exhibited had a white window mount with black core so you read my mind but negative :p I liked the idea of including another photograph I had taken in the image. I might have to do some more....

Love the concept. I like that the cloth sheet in in both photos is the same, it really makes you think. Nice work.

I really must say I find this photo bloody brilliant. By far my favorite of the three. The contrasts and lighting in the picture are subtle yet very good. Great job.
